There are quite a few Christmas markets in Munich. This wasn’t always the case but now almost every neighborhood seems to have one. Tonight we visited the market held on the grounds around the Chinese Pagoda or Chinesischer Turm in the English Garden – quite a contrast to the market under the Gothic spires on Marienplatz. In the summer this is a popular beer garden. But instead of beer, people are now drinking mulled wine with their grilled pork sausages. Upstairs in the Chinese Pagoda a brass ensemble is playing traditional Christmas caroles. There was no snow on the ground and the air wasn’t frosty, not quite in keeping with the holiday season, but I didn’t mind at all.
More pictures from the Christkindlmarkt are in my gallery.
